As the snow melts and the trails begin to come alive again, there’s no better time for the community to reconnect with one of Uxbridge’s most welcoming and energizing outdoor activities — the Uxbridge Pole Walking Club.

Held each spring and fall in the scenic surroundings of Elgin Park, this long-running program has become a staple for residents looking to stay active, social, and healthy. Founded by local healthcare professionals Dale Andrew, April Ferguson, and Jodi Bussiere, the club has spent years helping people of all ages and abilities discover the benefits of pole walking. Instructors Bridget Gerard and Dawn Barratt are also part of the team this spring.

Pole walking is much more than just a stroll through the park. By using poles, participants decrease impact through their lower body joints, and engage their upper body while walking, creating a full-body workout that improves posture, balance, and cardiovascular fitness.

Pole walking is ideal for those managing joint pain, recovering from injury, or simply looking for a gentler way to stay fit. Research has shown that pole walking can significantly enhance overall physical activity and rehabilitation outcomes.

What truly sets this group apart is its strong sense of community. Walkers often speak about the friendships they build, the supportive environment, and the simple joy of being outdoors together.

Classes are led by experienced instructors who guide participants through proper technique, along with warm-ups, strengthening exercises, and stretching, ensuring that everyone feels confident and supported.

The setting itself is another highlight. Elgin Park offers accessible trails, beautiful ponds, and a peaceful natural environment right in the heart of Uxbridge. This park provides the perfect backdrop for both beginners and seasoned walkers to enjoy their time outdoors.

The spring session will run May and June, with three classes offered each week over a six-week period.

Whether you’re looking to boost your fitness, meet new people, or simply enjoy the fresh air, the Uxbridge Pole Walking Club offers something for everyone.

Registration is available online at www.uxbridgepolewalking.com or in person at Uxbridge Physiotherapy.
