Tigers play for the LOSSA championship

It was a case of "turnabout is fair play" last Thursday as the Uxbridge Secondary School Tigers eked out a 14-13 victory over the Paul Dwyer Catholic High School Saints to earn a berth in the LOSSA championship game.
On Oct. 16, Dwyer defeated the Tigers 13-12 as Uxbridge missed the extra point conversion on both its touchdowns. Last Thursday, it was Dwyer's turn to miss a conversion.
After the opening kickoff, the Tigers marched down the field, leading to Reggie Kerford running in for a touchdown. During that drive, Owen Reid handled an 18-yard pass and Hayden Street picked up 32 yards on a pass and run.
Dwyer took possession but punted on third down, resulting in Streeter returning the ball all the way for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead. Following Uxbridge's kick-off, it was the Saints turn to make a slow march down the turf for their first touchdown, making it 14-7.
The second quarter was a back-and-forth battle as both teams failed to advance the ball significantly. Late in the quarter, Dwyer intercepted a pass at midfield and ran in for a touchdown, but failed to convert. Tigers 14-Saints 13. The Tigers took over on their own 50-yard line with 19 seconds left in the half. Quarterback Evan Coughlan threw a 53-yard pass to move the team to Dwyer's one-yard line, but time ran out.
The second half was a defensive battle between the two sides, with both defences shutting down any scoring chances.
The win over the LOSSA defending champions put the Tigers into the final. That takes place at 5 p.m. today (Thursday) at Oshawa Civic Field 5 when the Tigers meet the Holy Trinity Titans. The last time the two teams met, back in September, Trinity defeated the Tigers 26-6.
