Regional chair on medical leave

In a press release last week, the Region of Durham said regional chair John Henry is on a "brief" medical leave.” Without giving any details about Henry's condition, the release said he looks forward to returning soon.

In a subsequent statement issued on Henry's behalf, Henry was reported as saying: “I would like to . . .thank everyone who has reached out to my office with well wishes and words of encouragement. This outpouring of support means a lot to me."

Henry said that, while taking the necessary time to recover and focus on his health, he is now working from home. However, since he cannot attend any in-person events, Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter will continue to preside over meetings of Regional Council.
