Roundabouts on deck for local intersections

In his latest monthly message to residents, Mayor Dave Barton says a number of new roundabouts are coming to the township.
Barton said traffic lights that were installed at Lake Ridge Road and Davis Drive are a temporary solution to the number of accidents that have historically occurred at that intersection, but added that they will be replaced by a roundabout.
He said others are being considered for Toronto Street South and Concession 6, Brock Road and Goodwood Road in Coppins Corners and the intersection of Bloomington and the York-Durham line.
He did not speak about funding for the roundabouts, but since all involve regional roads, Durham Region will bear some responsibility for footing some of the bill.
Barton also said that progress is being made on the downtown revitalization file. He said the Township has "interviewed a number of different developers" since putting out a request for Expressions of Interest to buy and develop the land now occupied by the old Coffee Time building and the parking lot.
"What we've seen so far looks awesome," he said.
And finally, he pitched the "Communi-teas" being held for seniors at the Seniors Centre. The gatherings are held Mondays and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is no charge.
