RibFest application questioned by council

Ricky Brooks of the Ontario Festival Group did not receive instant support for his request to hold RibFest in Elgin Park on June 19, 20 and 21.

After Brooks made his deputation to council at Monday morning’s meeting via video link, Mayor Dave Barton said he had heard concerns from local groups about the way RibFest was run in past years

Brooks told council that RibFest donated $6,000 to local charities last year, including $2,500 to the Uxbridge Hospital Foundation. When he said groups receiving donations are asked to supply volunteers for the event, councillor Willie Popp asked how the hospital foundation was supposed to volunteer given its small staff of only four people.

Under direction from Barton, council sent Brooks' request to staff for a report and to the BIA for comment.
