Council gave its approval Monday to the start-up of a recreational pass lending program for Uxpool and the arena. The program is designed to allow families with limited finances to enjoy swimming and skating.
In a joint report from Community Services, the library and Uxpool, council was told that for some families the cost of going swimming or skating might be too much. The report urged the introduction of a "Swim & Skate Pass Lending Program" through the Uxbridge Public Library. Families would be able to borrow recreation passes that provide free access to public skating and swimming programs for up to five individuals over a set loan period.
Corrinne Morrison, library manager, said other pass programs run by the library have been successful, adding: "This would be a really great fit."
Recreation manager Hunter Gardner said the pass program would start with Uxpool in July.
