Changes proposed to arena’s ice time allocation policy

In a report presented to council on Monday, recreation manager Hunter Gardner gave a proposed revision of the ice allocation policy at the Uxbridge arena to ensure the "equitable and efficient management of indoor ice time."

Regular users of the ice have little to worry about since "historical status" would be considered for certain groups in the ice allocation process. To qualify for historical status, user groups such as the Uxbridge Bruins and North Durham Warriors must have had consistent use of the ice for at least three consecutive years. However, the report said that while historical status may offer consideration in the scheduling process, "it does not guarantee priority or automatic renewal of previous allocations."

The report said priority should be given to locals over non-resident groups and there should be ample time set aside for public skating.
