New mini-forest proposed by Rotary

Roger Varley, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter

Michael Banh of the Rotary Club of Uxbridge appeared before council Monday morning to pitch a new mini-forest at Elgin Park.

Banh, who has led the movement which has seen two mini-forest (small areas which are densely planted with native species) plots established in the Fields of Uxbridge and three in the King Street Parkette, proposed putting the next mini-forest in a corner of the overflow parking area which sits next to the Elgin Park Drive entrance of the park.

Banh proposed site preparation for June 13 and planting for Oct. 24. He said the mini-forest would be dedicated to the late Steve Snodden, and added that the Hospital Auxiliary's Run For The Diamond will donate trees to the project instead of providing t-shirts to Run participants.
