Deadline approaching for airport lands consultation
Lisha Van Nieuwenhove
Submissions for the public consultation regarding the Pickering airport lands closes this Friday, April 17, and Land Over Landings, the primary advocacy group for the protection of these lands, is urging those who want to have a say on how those lands are treated to get their voices heard before the submission deadline.
Submissions are made to Transport Canada, and can be made by taking an online survey (surveymonkey.ca/r/3ZMLD6W is the Transport Canada portal), or by email to pickering@tc.gc.ca. Use “Consultation - Future uses of the Pickering Lands” as the subject line. Land Over Landings also encourages those who write an email to copy that email to their MP and other involved elected officials.
“At a time when the world is threatened by geopolitical and climate instability, Canada needs to conserve its natural assets for our collective well-being. The last thing we need is a decision that squanders the lands that feed us, cool us, sequester our carbon emissions, and support our mental and physical health,” says Land Over Landings on their website. “Consultation coordinators have committed to reviewing, recording, and tallying every submission received. All of us who want the government to protect and not destroy this green oasis must make our thousands of voices heard. It will be our last opportunity to save this precious farmland and greenspace – for ourselves and our children and our children’s children.”
Feedback on this public consultation must be submitted before 11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 17.
