There aren’t too many whales around here, so North Durham Nature is offering an opportunity to get a closeup perspective of the most magnificent and largest creatures on this planet. On February 24, at 7 p.m., those interested can participate in a virtual, or Zoom, meeting entitled “The ‘Giant’ Whales of the Gulf of St. Lawrence.” Discover the secret lives of the Humpback, the Fin and the biggest of them all, the Blue Whale. And meet the researcher who has devoted his life to studying them and how he is solving some of their biggest mysteries.
Franco Mariotti, pictured above right, is a biologist, naturalist and a science communicator.
He was instrumental in the creation of Science North, in Sudbury, from its inception to becoming Northern Ontario’s major tourist attraction, and spent 32 years there. He developed programs and presentations for the public, delivered hundreds of presentations and developed content for exhibits and videos. Through this work he was able to travel to fascinating ‘wild’ places, such as Tanzania to participate in the making of an IMAX film on Dr. Jane Goodall, and to Borneo in another IMAX film on Orangutans.
Go to www.northdurhamnature.com for details on this and all other North Durham Nature talks and outings. Becoming a member of North Durham Nature ensures you will automatically be sent a Zoom link for this interesting talk.
