Bruins continue winning streak

With weekend victories over the Caledon Golden Hawks and the Port Perry LumberJacks, the Uxbridge Bruins extended their winning streak to six games. The wins put the Bruins six points ahead of the Georgina Ice atop the PJHL's Orr Division, with only three games remaining in the regular season.

At the arena on Friday night, the Bruins rolled to an easy 8-0 win over the lowly Golden Hawks, with goalie Kevin Halloran earning the shutout. The Golden Hawks were six men short on the bench.

Luke Kemp scored what proved to be the winning goal - unassisted - with five minutes left in the first period. That was followed quickly by Jack Kemp's marker, assisted by Colin Glecoff and Colin Tingay. The Bruins added two more in the second period and four more goals in the third.

The game was never in doubt as the home team launched a total of 78 shots against Caledon goalie John Hogan, while Halloran faced only 20 shots. The Cosmos selected Luke Kemp as the Bruins player of the game, while giving the nod to Guiseppe Bordieri of Caledon.

On Sunday, the Bruins headed down Reach Street for their final regular season game against their arch-rivals, the LumberJacks. The Bruins opened quickly, scoring three unanswered goals in the first period. Darin Bain notched the first one, assisted by Luke Kemp and Ryan Shier. Jack Kemp then scored, assisted by Tucker Roberts and Josh Hall finished off the period, with Kyle Butt and Cameron Meek assisting.

Port Perry scored in the second period to cut Uxbridge's lead to two goals, but the Bruins cancelled that goal with a power-play marker scored by Jordan Fitger, assisted by Jack Kemp and Meek.

The LumberJacks scored the only goal of the third period, giving the Bruins a 4-2 victory.

In seven meetings with Port Perry this season, the Bruins won six.

The Bruins now have only three games remaining in the regular season, all to be played this weekend. Tomorrow (Friday) night, they host the struggling Little Britain Merchants at 7:45 p.m. at the arena. On Saturday, they travel to Caledon to face the Golden Hawks again and then they wrap it up against the Ice in a 2:30 p.m game on Monday in Georgina.
