Curbside giveaway event coming to a curb near you

Got stuff? Got stuff that’s in good shape but you just don’t need or use any longer? Set it aside for Curbside Giveaway Day!

On Saturday, June 14, from 7 a.m. through to 7 p.m., residents throughout Durham Region are invited to participate in Curbside Giveaway Day, when they can place unwanted items still in good condition - clearly marked as “Free” - on their curb for anyone to pick up. At the end of the day, residents should bring any items that were not taken back into their homes.

If you’re willing to give it away, others will be happy to pick it up! Mark June 14 on the calendar for Curbside Giveaway Day.

The Region has released a few suggestions for participating:

Please ensure any items you retrieve from the curb are clearly marked as “Free.” If they are not marked, considering checking in with the item owner before claiming it.

Baby items such as car seats and cribs should not be placed at the curb for safety reasons.

Remember to obey all traffic laws and to watch for children; do not block traffic, sidewalks or place items on the road; do not trespass on other people’s property, block other people’s driveway or park illegally.

The Region also asks participants to follow safe and sanitary practices when participating in the giveaway:

Clean and disinfect items prior to the giveaway; clothing or other fabric items should be laundered prior to the giveaway. We also recommend laundering any clothing you have acquired.

Please return unclaimed items into your home by 7 p.m. Material left at the curb after the Curbside Giveaway Day will be subject to by-law enforcement.
