Uxbridge Bruins continue up-and-down ride

In one of those scheduling anomalies, the Uxbridge Bruins played last Friday's game in Georgina instead of the Uxbridge arena and the Georgina Ice took advantage of playing at home. In a close fought match, the Ice edged the Bruins 6-5.

The game was a back-and-forth encounter, with the teams exchanging goals all the way through. The Ice took a 2-1 lead in the first period, with Trent Nobes scoring the Uxbridge goal, assisted by Danny Thomakos and Jonathan Sandras.

Evan Gilbert tied the score early in the goal-filled second period with assists going to Thomakos and Sandras and Luke Kemp put the Bruins ahead near the midway mark, assisted by Cameron Meek and Aidyn Urbach. Once again the Ice tied the score, Gilbert united with Nobes and Thomakos to regain the lead but the Ice evened the game with less than a minute training in the period.

Thomakos put the Bruins ahead again early in the third, assisted by Devin Hollands, but Georgina scored two more to put the game away.

In Scarborough on Sunday, it was a completely different story. The Bruins racked up a staggering 75 shots on the Scarborough Knights goal, compared to only 18 shots by the Knights.

Thomakos scored what proved to be the winning goal on an unassisted effort midway through the first. Captain Ryan Shier made it 2-0, assisted by Nathan Marincola and Jordan Fitger.

Gilbert scored the lone goal of the second period, Nobes and Thomakos assisting and finally Shier scored his second of the night, unassisted, in the final stanza.

As of now, the Bruins sit in fourth place in the PJHL's seven-team Orr Division with four wins, including an overtime win, and three losses, including an overtime loss.

The local lads return to the arena tomorrow (Friday) night at 7:45 p.m. to face the Little Britain Merchants.
