Scaffolding covers much of the north end of the Uxbridge library as repairs to the clock tower roof begin.

The roof was hit by a lightning strike on July 28 and the resulting damage has been covered with a tarp since then. The damage was limited to a small area of the tower roof and no-one was injured.

Corrinne Morrison, library manager, said the repair work will also include the installation of a new lightning rod.

Meanwhile, at the west end of town, work is ongoing to repair damage to the west wall of the arena's community centre. A vehicle slammed into the wall last week (no one was injured) and the hall was closed off for a couple of days. The work is continuing, but a temporary inside wall has been erected to enable continued use of the hall, such as Monday night's candidates forum.
