Two convincing wins last weekend restored the Uxbridge Bruins winning ways following a temporary glitch in a loss to Clarington.
Prior to the Clarington loss, the Bruins had been on a seven-game winning streak.
The two wins featured a total of five power-play goals by the Bruins and two empty-netters.
After losing 4-1 to the Eagles a week ago, the Bruins returned to the arena last Friday to double the Schomberg Cougars 6-3. The Bruins scored two power-play goals in the first period, courtesy of Trent Nobes and Kyle Butt. Wyatt Renaud and R.J. Schmidt gave the Uxbridge squad a four-goal lead early in the second period before the Cougars finally lit up the scoreboard.
Schomberg showed signs of a rally midway through the third period, scoring two quick goals, but Nobes scored again as the period wound down and Jordan Fitger finished the scoring off with an empty net goal with less than a minute remaining.
Two days later, the Bruins headed to meet their archrivals, the Port Perry LumberJacks. The LumberJacks took the lead in the first period, scoring two goals, while Josh Hall replied for Uxbridge on a power play.
Another power-play marker came in the second period when Danny Thomakos teamed with Nobes and Hudson de Haus. Cameron Meek scored his first of three late in the stanza but the LumberJacks managed to tie the score. In the third period, it was all Bruins. Meek scored his second goal, assisted by Ayden Urbach, just a couple of minutes into the period and captain Ryan Shier popped in an unassisted marker on a power play late in the period. Port Perry pulled their goalie in an attempt to salvage the game but Meek made it a hat-trick with an empty-netter with eight seconds left.
The Bruins remain in second place in the seven-team Orr Division, two points behind the Clarington Eagles. Those Eagles will visit the arena tomorrow (Friday) night at 7:45 p.m. Then Uxbridge will once again go to meet the LumberJacks.
Bear pause: Defenceman Malcolm Robin has been selected to represent the Bruins at the 2026 PJHL Prospects game. The game will be played in Streetsville at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
