Seven songwriters from Uxbridge Secondary School recently jammed together to cover Arkells’ "Hand Me Downs" for the CBC Music Class Challenge.
“These are students who are sometimes not featured in our band concerts but who are super talented,” says music teacher Amy Peck.
Calling themselves The USS Collective, the musicians, from grades 11 and 12, are enrolled in the Vocal Songwriting, Jazz Studies, and Instrumental Music courses at USS. On their entry on the CBC website, it says the students, “are very grateful to live in a town with many musical mentors and a thriving music scene.”
The CBC Music Challenge invites students from across Canada to learn a pre-approved Canadian song and submit a video for a chance to win MusiCounts grants for their classes.
Finalists will be announced on Dec. 12.
