November an up and down month for Bruins

Roger Varley

November was a tough month for the Uxbridge Bruins, but it was also a good month for the Bruins.

The Bruins have a record of 17 wins and three losses for the season so far, but all three losses came last month. On the good side, the Bruins scored a total of 33 goals in seven games, while allowing only 15.

A good chunk of the scoring came last Thursday when the Uxbridge squad travelled to Bowmanville and clobbered the Clarington Eagles 10-2, with Darin Bain scoring a hat-trick. The Bruins scored four goals in the first seven minutes of the opening period, including a power-play marker, before the Eagles scored, also on a power play. The Bruins first goal came less than a minute into the action.

In the second period, the Bruins added two more. In the final stanza, Uxbridge found the net twice more before Clarington managed to score their second goal, but the Bruins weren't done as they added two more goals.

On Friday, the Bruins returned to the arena to host their arch-rivals, the Port Perry LumberJacks and suffered their third loss of the month and the season. Facing former Bruins goalie Eamon Callaghan, the Uxbridge squad lost their scoring punch of the night before and were shut out 3-0 by the Jacks.

Port Perry scored one goal in the first period and added two more in the dying minutes of the third period.

The Bruins are back in action tomorrow (Friday) night at the arena when they host Clarington at 7:45 p.m. On Sunday they head down Reach Street to face the LumberJacks again.
