Two young Uxbridge residents are competing this week on the international stage.

In Oakville this week, Kyler Lauder is playing for the U17 Canada Red team at the World Challenge hockey competition.

The team lost its opening match Sunday against Finland 5-1 but came back the next day with a 6-4 win over the U.S. Lauder scored the winning goal.

Lauder was recently signed by the Chatham Maroons after being picked in the second round of the OHL draft. He previously played for the Saginaw Spirit. Last season, he won the OMHA East U16 AAA player of the year award with 35 goals and 34 assists with the Central Ontario Wolves.

Far, far away, in Dakar, Senegal, Travis Altmann of Seagrave is playing for the Canadian squad in the rugby sevens at the 2026 Youth Olympics.
