Tricky section of Lake Ridge gets new speed limit

Winding roads, multiple ski hills and a valley make up one of the most picturesque sections of Lake Ridge Road — and also one of the most treacherous, which is why Durham Region is lowering the speed limit there.
Last week, the Region announced that it will install a 70 km/h posted speed limit on Lake Ridge Road (Regional Road 23) from 740 metres south of Chalk Lake Road (west leg) to 675 metres north of Chalk Lake Road (west leg), in Uxbridge. The speed limit is currently 80 km/h.
The announcement said the speed limit reduction signs will be installed “in early November. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.”
The announcement also said that additional signage and line marking enhancements will be added to reinforce this change.
“The speed limit reduction aims to improve safety for all road users. Aggressive driving, including speeding, was identified as one of eight emphasis areas in Durham’s Vision Zero Strategic Road Safety Action Plan, which aims to reduce and ultimately eliminate all fatalities and injuries caused by collisions on our road system. Reducing speed is one of the best ways to reduce the frequency and severity of collisions in the Durham Region community. Speed limits are not guidelines – they are laws.”
