New trail created in Elgin Park

Uxbridge’s Parks and Trails department has established a new self-guided Forest Therapy Trail in Elgin Park, a brand-new walk designed to promote mindfulness and well-being. The trail is a self-guided experience that leads visitors through Elgin Park to help them connect with the natural world around them.

A news release from the township said Forest Therapy is the practice of spending intentional time in nature, with an emphasis on engaging the senses and appreciating its natural beauty. The release said Forest Therapy has proven benefits for both the mind and body and is a great way to reduce stress.

The trail, which starts at the lookout over Elgin Pond, includes five reflection points. The interactive guide features yoga poses, breathing exercises, listening activities and more.

Also on the recreation front, it was announced last week that work will start soon on the new pool. It is going to take almost a year-and-a-half to complete, but the township has begun the first steps towards construction of the new aquatic centre to replace Uxpool.

The Township has announced that the contract for the design-build of the facility has been formally awarded and preliminary work is scheduled to begin soon. Construction is projected to be completed over the next 17 months, with the facility opening to the public by March 2027. The existing Uxpool will remain fully operational during that period.
