According to a statement on the Township website, the Best Energy and Emission Performance Award for a Recreation Facility was given for the Elgin Park buildings.

“This recognition highlights the facility’s exceptional environmental performance, achieving the lowest GHG intensity and the lowest weather-normalized site energy use intensity among comparable buildings in 2024,” says the news release.

“This award reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability, responsible energy management, and climate leadership,” says Kristi Honey, Chief Administrative Officer for the Township of Uxbridge.

The DGB Challenge is a free building benchmarking and disclosure program. Using an online benchmarking tool (measuring and tracking a building's energy performance over time) that has been licensed by Natural Resources Canada, participants can benchmark their buildings, share results, collaborate on solutions, and get expert help and advice from specialists in the field. Buildings must be located in Durham Region, all types of commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-residential buildings are eligible, including factories, retail, warehouses, condominiums, apartments, universities, schools, hospitals, hospitality, recreational buildings, and municipal buildings.
