Wondering what to do on a hot, sultry Friday? Stop by the School Bus Café for coffee, activities, cookies, and more!

Located at 7309 Centre Road, the café operates out of a converted school bus and is open for its second season this summer. The initiative was started by Rita Van Halteren, who envisioned it as “a space to create a community for adults with special needs.”

Finding this kind of community can be especially challenging due to limited programming in the area, says Van Halteren.

“There’s a huge need for some sort of engagement in the community,” she says.

So far, she feels that the café has done just that. “I love how it brings awareness and inclusivity for the special needs community in Uxbridge,” says Patty Flowers, who also helps with the café.

The School Bus Café is open Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. until the end of August.
