Regional climate advisory committee has Uxbridge vacancy

A spot has become available on a regional advisory committee, and regional government is looking for an Uxbridge resident to fill the vacancy.

According to a news release from the region put out on Tuesday, the Durham Environment and Climate Advisory Committee (DECAC) is “seeking an Uxbridge resident to join the committee and help shape the future of environmental and climate action in Durham Region.”

DECAC advises Durham Regional council about environmental and climate change matters affecting Durham. This includes providing advice on environmental and climate-change related policy directions and initiatives pursued by the Region. This may include providing advice, feedback, and guidance to Regional staff and council on Durham’s

climate change-related plans and initiatives.

Members of DECAC also provide advice with doing community outreach activities which support the growth of environmental awareness and appreciation in Durham Region in co-operation with other organizations, where appropriate. This may include recommending and assisting with educational workshops or homeowner guides which can be used by the public in areas such as tree cutting, fertilizer use, erosion control and general enhancement of the environment.

The news release says that, to be eligible for the position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

They must reside in the Township of Uxbridge.

The applicant must have a strong interest in environmental matters.

Academic qualifications or work experience in environmental and climate-related disciplines, such as energy, housing, transportation and conservation will be considered an asset.

Finally, the applicant must be available to attend monthly, evening DECAC meetings.

Interested parties are invited to review the eligibility criteria and complete application instructions at durham.ca/committees.

They are also asked to complete and submit the Regional Advisory Committee Application Form online.
