Pack some bikes with Africycle this weekend
It’s time to pack up your old and unused bicycles, Africycle is gearing up for their fall 2025 container packing days, and reaching a special milestone as this will be their 75th container shipped off to Malawi!
Container packing will be held this weekend Saturday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Along with always welcoming bike donations, Africycle is looking for volunteers to help with container load up this weekend.
Africycle’s mission is to help improve access to quality and affordable bicycles in Malawi, Southern Africa. Their organization works by collecting from a network of partners and supporters who ship second hand bicycles to our program from around the world.
“Once the bicycles are received in Malawi, they are rebuilt by a team of locally trained mechanics who return the bikes to like-new condition, ready for sale,” says Africycle.
Bicycles are then sold at low cost, helping to mobilize the people in rural communities who receive the greatest impact from transportation.
“Selling the bicycles allows Africycle to maintain a sustainable model, in which funds are used to cover the cost of shipping bikes and local operations, all the while, mobilizing Malawians as effectively as possible. Africycle also reinvests into the local communities through bike donations to local volunteer organizations and funds community child care programs that are helping to feed more than 500 orphaned and vulnerable children every.”
