Two provincial ministers joined members of council and the community at the Sandford Community Centre last Friday afternoon to announce that $41,233 in annual funding will be directed to the new Ux55+ Senior Active Living Centre.

MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy (Pickering-Uxbridge) and Raymond Cho, minister for seniors and accessibility, both made the announcement, sharing that there are now 416 Seniors Active Living Centres (SALC) in Ontario. According to the province, these SALCs offer social, cultural, learning and recreational programs for older adults that promote health, well-being and social connections.

“This $41,233 investment in the Sandford Seniors Active Living Centre will help ensure local seniors have opportunities to stay active, build meaningful social connections and remain engaged in community life,” said Bethlenfalvy.

Cho echoed this, saying “This will help even more seniors, no matter where they live, including those in a city or rural area, live more healthy, happy and independent lives.”

Mayor Dave Barton pointed out the benefit of the Centre to rural residents, saying “This funding is pivotal for seniors in our community, particularly for those living in our rural areas.”
