High fives for the Bruins

With wins over Schomberg and Little Britain on the weekend, the Uxbridge Bruins improved their record to 6-0-0 and became the only undefeated team in the PJHL's Junior C Orr Division.
Five appears to be the magic number for the Bruins, since they have scored five goals in five of their six wins. Their first win of the season was a 2-1 victory over the Clarington Eagles.
At the arena last Friday, the Bruins dominated the Schomberg Cougars in the first period but scored only one goal, a blast from the blue line by Jordan Bonner which hit the goalie's stick and bounced up into the net. Tanner Ryan had the assist.
The Cougars tied the score in the second period with a power-play goal, only to see Ryan regain the lead three minutes later when he raced from the blue line to get into position for an anticipated pass from Tyson Lotton. Darin Bain also received an assist. Cameron Meek, assisted by Trent Warren, put the Bruins two up as the period wound down.
Colin Glecoff and Evan Gilbert each scored in the third to give the Bruins the 5-1 victory.
The Cosmos selected Bonner as player of the game for the Bruins and Dawson Boily for the Cougars.
The following night in Little Britain, the Merchants gave the Uxbridge squad the toughest opposition so far and managed to score four goals, but the Bruins hit the magic five again. The game saw the two teams battle back and forth, with only seven penalties called.
The Merchants opened the scoring near the midway mark of the first, but Ryan Shier evened it up as the period wound down, assisted by Bain and Josh Hall.
Little Britain opened the second with another goal, but Bain soon responded, assisted by Bonner and Ryan. Bonner put the Bruins ahead late in the period, assisted by Isaac Mengers, and once again Little Britain tied the score.
The Merchants started the third with a power-play goal and, once again, the Bruins evened the score with a marker by Shier, assisted by Bain. A minute later, Lotton scored the winning goal, assisted by Nolan Winter and Shier, and the Bruins held on for the 5-4 win.
This coming weekend should see the Bruins increase their lead atop the division as they play back-to-back games against the lowly Caledon Golden Hawks, who have yet to win a game. The Hawks visit the arena tomorrow (Friday) at 7:45 p.m. and then host the Bruns at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
