Help Uxbridge win $100,000

Roger Varley, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter

Uxpool manager Carolyn Clementson told council on Monday that Participaction Canada is searching for Canada's most active municipality.

In a report, Clementson said Canada’s most active community will receive the grand prize of $100,000 to support local physical activity and sport initiatives. Additionally, one community in each of the 12 provinces and territories will receive between $7,500 and $15,000, depending on whether the provincial or territorial governments provide a contribution.

The main goal of the Participaction's Community Challenge is to encourage as many organizations in town to register their physical activity and sport programs, initiatives and events and track the number of participants throughout June. Scoring criteria includes the numbers of registered individuals, organizations, programs, initiatives and/or events and the number of participants tracked.

Clementson said anyone engaged in physical activity, whether it be the horseshoe club or the cycling club or any other organization dedicated to getting people active can register their activity as part of the grand total.

She said the challenge is open to all municipalities, including large cities, but even small communities can have the same chance of winning the prizes.

Anyone wishing to register for the program should contact Clementson at 905-852-918 for details.
