Fall fair nears record numbers

It started with the roar of engines at the Friday night tractor pull competition, continued with the crash and rumble of the demolition derby on Saturday night and closed quietly on Sunday. That was this year's edition of the Uxbridge Fall Fair.

The fair started off on a high note, with attendance being the second highest for a Friday night since the fair started. The crowds continued to flow for the rest of the weekend, with the overflow parking area near the Elgin Park Drive gates filled to capacity, and vehicles parked along both Elgin Park Drive and Main Street South.

Children were a feature of the fair this year, with a kid's scavenger hunt being part of the fun. A member of the fair board said the scavenger hunt was designed to encourage children to visit areas of the fairgrounds they might not always go to. Other events to please the young ones included the second year of the SuperDogs show and a visit on Sunday by Disney princesses. And, of course, there was face-painting and the midway.

The board also said there was a better response from riders for this year's horse show.

No problems were reported as Durham Regional Police, private security and members of the Uxbridge Oilies hockey team provided security.
