Fall back and change batteries
This weekend (Sunday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m., to be precise), clocks will fall back one hour. With the time change, the Uxbridge Fire Department recommends that residents not only change their clocks, but also their batteries in all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
For smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to work efficiently, batteries must be replaced for new ones at least once a year. Changing batteries when the time change takes place is an easy way to remember and stay on track with when they were last changed.
According to a message on the Township of Uxbridge’s website, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are vital. Smoke alarms are required on every storey of a home, including outside all sleeping areas. It is also recommended that residents install smoke alarms inside all bedrooms for further safety.
Homes with fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces or an attached garage are required to have carbon monoxide alarms outside of all sleeping areas. Starting Jan. 1, 2026, carbon monoxide alarms on every floor without bedrooms will also be required.
