On Friday, May 1, seven people filed their nomination papers at the Township offices, the first day available for nominations. They included a mix of current serving members of council and three newcomers.

The newcomers include Ian Giffin, who will be seeking election as mayor of Uxbridge. He will be running for the first time. Craig Marlatt will also be running for the first time, seeking the seat in Ward 3. Current Ward 3 councillor Zed Pickering has already announced he will not be seeking re-election.

Another newcomer, but not a first-time candidate, is Christine McKenzie, who will be running in Ward 5.

Current members of council who will be seeking re-election are regional councillor Bruce Garrod, Ward 1 councillor Pam Beach, Ward 2 councillor Gordon Shreeve and Ward 4 councillor Willie Popp. Mayor Dave Barton and Ward 5 councillor Todd Snooks have not yet indicated whether they will be running.

Nominations close on Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. Those interested in running in this Fall's municipal election can visit the Township website to see what requirements need to be met.
