COVID-19 cases confirmed at two Uxbridge locations

Durham Region Health Services reports that cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at two Uxbridge locations: Douglas Crossing retirement residence and at Uxbridge Hospital.
According to DRHS, the hospital has one confirmed case, an in-patient, while the Douglas Crossing infection is called an outbreak. However, Stacey Sellery, general manager at Douglas Crossing, pointed out that even just two infections, as is the case at the residence, is considered an outbreak.
As a result Sellery said, all staff at Douglas Crossing are required to wear masks and regularly sanitize their hands, but masks are only "recommended" for residents and visitors. Residents, with the exception of those infected, are not confined to their quarters and can come and go as they please. The residents testing positive are isolated for between five and 10 days.
Nevertheless, Douglas Crossing has instituted a few changes. Meals will be delivered to residents' suites and group activities are cancelled until further notice. A note to residents says the staff "will continue to work closely with Public Health to ensure we are taking every possible precaution to stop the spread within the building."
