Carney-Ford agreement shouldn't affect Uxbridge

A recent agreement between Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ontario Premier Doug Ford to substantially increase home building in the province will result in decreases in the development charges that municipalities impose.
Mayor Dave Barton said the announcement will likely influence how infrastructure is paid for, and that staff at Uxbridge and the region will be asked to provide recommendations. He added, however, that in Uxbridge, the impact should be more limited.
"Our growth is already constrained by the Greenbelt, Oak Ridges Moraine and Lake Simcoe Protection Plan, so we are less reliant on development charges than many larger municipalities that depend heavily on development to fund infrastructure," he said.
Barton said if there are any implications for Uxbridge they will be discussed at budget time.
