Christine McKenzie is making her second bid for a seat on council, running in Ward 5 against incumbent Todd Snooks.

McKenzie lost to Snooks in 2022, taking 418 votes to Snooks' 699.

"I know what the odds are to defeat an incumbent," she said.

McKenzie says she is running because she wants to protect what makes Uxbridge special and is concerned whether urban growth in places like Markham and Stouffville could affect Uxbridge.

"There're a lot of good things happening in Uxbridge, with challenges and opportunities," she said. "We need people who are excited to do the work."

Still in the early stages of the municipal election campaign, McKenzie has not yet had signs or pamphlets prepared and she is working on a webpage.

"I've been getting out into the community, working on relationships," she said.

Meanwhile, Richard Damianopoulos has filed his papers to run for re-election as Uxbridge trustees on the Durham Catholic District School Board. He replaced trustee Kathy LaFort in 2020 when she resigned, and has served as trustee since then.
