Awards were handed out last week at the Uxbridge Bruins Junior C team's annual banquet. The team said goodbye to some members.
President Jay Simmons said he will be moving on after six years of heading up the Bruins and will be taking over as general manager of the Aurora Tigers. As for his last year with the Bruins, Simmons said: "What a wonderful year it was."
Also saying goodbye to the team are captain Tanner Ryan and other over-age players Benson Moore, Colin Glecoff, Isaac Mengers and Jack Kemp.
Goalie Robbie DiMaria was named as the team's most valuable player. In the last season, DiMaria won 19 games, had four losses and allowed only 31 goals. The Roy Cordingly Memorial Trophy, the team's version of the Lady Byng Trophy for most sportsmanlike conduct, went to Jordan Fitger. Cameron Meek was named the most improved player and Jack Kemp received the Coaches’ Award. Mengers won the Ivan Cox Memorial Award as the team's defensive player of the year and Jordan Bonner was handed the Bob and Dorothy Pollard Trophy, also known as the Bruins Pride award.
Because of the successful year the team had, the Media Award, also known as the Spirit of the Bruins Award, was presented to the entire team.
Coach Dan West said he will be returning behind the bench next season and general manager Trevor Cox told the team: "When you come back next year, we have unfinished business."
