Bruins continue winning streak

In a rare back-to-back home double-header, the Uxbridge Bruins increased their unbeaten streak to 10 games last weekend, defeating the Clarington Eagles last Friday and downing the Little Britain Merchants the following night.

At the arena on Friday, the Bruins started out a little less sharp than they have shown so far, leading the Eagles to a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the period. Ryan Shier evened the score late in the second period on a power play, assisted by Tanner Ryan and Darin Bain.

With the teams playing four-on-four early in the third, Tyson Lotton scored the game winner, assisted by Benson Moore. As the period wound down, the Eagles pulled their goalie for the extra attacker and staged a last-minute siege of the Uxbridge net, but goalie Robbie DiMaria came up with two or three big saves.

The Cosmos selected DiMaria as the player of the game for the Bruins, while giving the nod to Braydon Hicks of the Eagles.

The following night, the Bruins hosted the Merchants and took an early lead when Bain tipped in a shot from the blue line less than two minutes into the game. Assists went to Tyler Laita and Nolan Winter.

Uxbridge's second goal came with less than a minute remaining in the second period, with Liam Peterson taking the honours, assisted by Tucker Roberts and Moore.

In the third period, once again playing four-on-four, Moore put the Bruins ahead 3-0 with a sizzling shot, assisted by Lotton and Shier. With just over two minutes left in the game, the Merchants scored on a power play and then pulled the goalie for the extra attacker but the Bruins held on for the win.

The Cosmos named goalie Kevin Halloran as the Bruins player of the game and selected Nathanial Dugwell for the Merchants.

DiMaria has a stunning 0.79 goals against average in the five games he has played and Halloran has a 1.80 average, resulting in a combined 1.29 average. On the scoring side, with the exception of the two goalies, every player on the Bruins squad has contributed at least one point.

The Uxbridge squad travels to Schomberg tonight (Thursday) to meet the Cougars and then play host to the Port Perry LumberJacks the following night at 7:45 p.m.
