2026 may not be Tigers’ year

Roger Varley

It has been a tough year for the Uxbridge Secondary School football Tigers, with neither the senior team nor the junior team registering a win so far.

The Tigers' schedule was upset last week when the senior team played an exhibition game at home instead of travelling to Ajax to meet Denis O'Connor High School.

In the exhibition game, the Tigers fell 19-12 to Peterborough’s Adam Scott Collegiate last Thursday.

With starting quarterback Evan Coughlan out of the line-up, Reggie Kerford and Dallen Bush shared the duties, completing eight of 12 passes between them for 67 yards. Neither of the Tigers' touchdowns came on passes. The first was scored by Evan Burch on a two-yard and Kerford scored the other touchdown on a 40-yard punt return.

Leo Langhorst led the ground game with 50 yards, followed by Kerford with 32 and Jayden Haughie with 27.

On defense, King Imbriglio, Cash Owen and Kerford each recorded three tackles with Hayden Streeter contributing two tackles and a key interception.

Despite the disappointing season so far, the senior Tigers' will be headlining this year’s much-anticipated Friday Night Lights Homecoming Game tomorrow (Friday). The seniors will host the Brooklin Bears at 6:30 p.m., while the junior Tigers will kick off the evening, also against Brooklin, at 4:30 p.m.
