It was smiles all round on Tuesday afternoon when members of council from both Uxbridge and Scugog townships, as well as animal control officers, New Animal Shelter of Uxbridge-Scugog volunteers and project benefactors gathered to break the ground (or the snow) on the new animal shelter. The new shelter is located on Lake Ridge Road, just south of Reach Street, in the Township of Uxbridge. The project has been in the works since 2010, and the new facility hopes to have a soft opening in October 2026. Photo by John Cavers
The Dec. 4 edition of the Uxbridge Cosmos highlights the long‑awaited groundbreaking of the new Uxbridge–Scugog Animal Shelter, a $3.3 million project first envisioned in 2010 and now set to open in October 2026. Editorials celebrate this milestone, while letters to the editor debate local governance, farmland preservation, and snow‑clearing challenges. Community spirit shines through stories of neighbours helping during storms, township notices about awards and winter parking, and promotion of the Christmas Shopping Crawl. Opinion columns reflect on the commercialization of Christmas and the vital role of journalists in holding leaders accountable.
