Uxbridge Bruins show no signs of letting up

It was no surprise to Uxbridge Bruins fans when the team earned four rather easy points over the weekend as they played back-to-back games against the Caledon Golden Hawks. Caledon has not won a game yet this season and have scored only 10 goals in eight games.

The Bruins, however, extended their season record to 8-0-0 and are now one of only two teams in the entire 61-team OJHL that haven't suffered a loss.

On Friday at the arena, the Bruins scored two goals in the first period and then unloaded for six more in the second period. Caledon finally showed a little life in the third period, scoring their only goal of the game, but the Bruins came back with two more for a final score of 12-1.

Captain Tanner Ryan led the Bruins' onslaught with two goals and three assists, while Darin Bain had two goals and an assist. Tucker Roberts and Ryan Shier each had two goals and other markers went to Jack Kemp, Josh Hall, Tyson Lotton and Evan Gilbert.

The Bruins had only two penalties called against them and Caledon had only one. But the Bruins took advantage of that lapse, scoring a power-play goal.

The Bruins had a total of 56 shots on goal, compared with Caledon's 21.

The Cosmos selected Ryan as the Bruins' player of the game, while giving the nod to Keiren Potts of the Golden Hawks for his goal.

On Sunday afternoon in Caledon, the Uxbridge dominance continued. Caledon scored the first goal of the game just three minutes after the opening whistle. Benson Moore scored the equalizer three minutes later, assisted by Colin Glecoff and Hall, and what proved to be the game winner followed in quick order, courtesy of Tanner, assisted by Roberts and Jordan Bonner.

After a scoreless second period, Glecoff potted the final goal of the game early in the third period. Once again, the shots on goal told the story: the Bruins fired at the Caledon net 47 times, while Caledon managed only 16 shots.

The Bruins host the Clarington Eagles at the arena Friday night at 7:45 p.m., and follow that with another home game on Saturday against the Little Britain Merchants, again at 7:45 p.m.
