U.S.S. Tigers are ready to roar

Football returns to Uxbridge Secondary School today (Thursday) when the junior Tigers play host to Paul Dwyer High School at 2 p.m.

This year, USS will have both a junior and a senior team. The football program began two years ago after a 13-year absence, meaning it only had a junior team. Now, with two years under their belts, those original juniors are on a senior team.

Led by head coach Jeff Keeping, the Tigers held a controlled scrimmage with Banting High School from Alliston last Thursday. Also part of the coaching staff is Greg Mazza, grandson of the legendary Tigers coach Phil Mazza.

The senior team makes its debut next Thursday when it plays away at Holy Trinity HS at 1 p.m. That game will be followed by the juniors at 3 p.m.

The big night for the Tigers comes on Oct. 16 when both the juniors and seniors play their Friday Night Lights game at Tiger Field. It will be the first home game for the senior team. The kick-off for the juniors will be at 4 p.m and the seniors at 6:30 p.m.

Last year, the Tigers made it to the LOSSA championship game in Oshawa but lost the match 36-13.
