Uxbridge Secondary School's junior Tigers were obliterated 55-0 a week ago in what proved to be their final game of the season.
Playing against Paul Dwyer Catholic High School at the Oshawa sports complex in the first round of the LOSSA playoffs, the Tigers lost the game in the first few minutes.
After an initial three-and-out to start the first quarter, the Tigers punted and the kick was returned for a touchdown by Dwyer. Halfway through the quarter, Uxbridge's Dallas Tranter intercepted a pass and ran in for a touchdown but the score was nullified by a Tigers penalty, which put Dwyer on the Tigers' two-yard line. That led to another Dwyer TD.
With 30 seconds left in the second quarter, Dwyer scored another TD bu missed on an attempted two-point conversion, making the score 20-0. But on the last play of the half, Dwyer picked up a fumble and ran for a TD.This time, the two-point conversion worked. Dwyer 28 - Uxbridge 0.
In the third, Dwyer received the opening kickoff and ran it back for a 60-yard TD.
And so the game continued, with Dwyer picking up three more TDs before the final whistle.
It was a disappointing season for the junior Tigers, who lost all of their games.
The senior Tigers also fell to Dwyer the same day, losing 24-14. Quarterback Evan Coughlan threw for 121 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Owen Reid led the receivers with four catches for 51 yards and running back Reggie Kerford had 56 yards on 15 carries, with an additional 29 yards on receptions. Kerford scored both Tigers touchdowns.
The senior Tigers now turn their attention to the playoffs, playing at the Oshawa sport complex against either Brooklin or Holy Trinity.
