Upcoming election promises full slate

There will be a full slate of candidates in this fall's municipal election, with no one acclaimed for any seat on council. And there will be at least two new faces on the next council.

One name that will not be on the ballots is Todd Snooks, currently the Ward 5 councillor. Snooks has not filed to seek re-election. The Cosmos was unable to contact Snooks for comment. The Ward 5 race is now between Christine McKenzie and W. David Ward,

The race for Ward 1, currently represented by Pam Beach, is the most crowded, with four candidates seeking to replace Beach. They are Karen Kenyon, Lori Kennedy, Colin Thacker and Victoria Devenport.

Regional councillor Bruce Garrod has been issued a late challenge for his position by Jeff Mittman.

Dave Barton is facing two challengers for the position of mayor: Ian Giffin and former councillor Ted Eng.

In the other wards, Craig Marlatt and Jacquie Hermans are fighting for Ward 3, where Zed Pickering will not be seeking re-election. Willie Popp faces Alex Orr in Ward 4, and Gord Shreeve is being challenged by Janet Betts in Ward 2.

For school trustees, Richard Damianopoulos is acclaimed for the Durham Catholic District School Board, while Paul Breeze, Dave Brown, Netarlia Duboisky and James Bountrogiannis are all seeking to be Durham District School Board trustee.

The election will be held Oct. 26, with voting being done via the internet.
