Tips for taking public transit both within and out of the Township of Uxbridge
Submitted by Regional Councillor Bruce Garrod
Transit ridership in Uxbridge continues to grow as more residents discover that Durham Region Transit (DRT) can help with everyday travel around town and across the region. In 2025, transit boardings reached record levels, with more than 58,000 passenger trips recorded in Uxbridge. That’s a 24 per cent increase over 2024.
A large share of those trips occurred on the 605 route, which carried about 25,700 riders during the year. The 605 route operates on a 24-minute loop from approx. 6:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. weekdays (7 a.m. until 7 p.m. weekends and holidays), serving downtown Uxbridge, Coral Creek / Uxbridge Secondary School, and the shopping areas in the south end of town. Depending on the time of day, buses run at 30-minute or 60-minute intervals.
The 905 route, which connects Uxbridge with Port Perry, Durham College and Whitby GO Station, carried about 13,200 riders in 2025. Service on the 905 route operates at 90-minute intervals within Uxbridge depending on the time of day.
DRT’s On-Demand service also plays a key role in Uxbridge, with approximately 19,200 rides recorded in 2025. Riders eligible for specialized transit can book trips up to four days in advance, while other riders can book up to three days ahead. Trips can be booked through the DRT app, or telephone by dialing 3-1-1. The service provides a flexible option in areas or at times where fixed routes may not operate.
Transit also remains affordable. Adult riders pay $3.73 with a PRESTO tap; youth, $3.36; and seniors, $2.46. Cash or debit/credit payments are $4.75, while seniors paying cash pay $3.45.
Durham Region Transit does not currently provide service into York Region. Instead, travel in that direction is provided by GO Transit, operated by Metrolinx on behalf of the Province of Ontario. GO bus service currently begins around 4:20 a.m., with the final return trip arriving in Uxbridge at approximately 11:45 p.m.
