Uxbridge's Public Library's clock tower stands out as the most visible landmark and historical feature in the town. Now residents have the opportunity to make the tower stand out in Canada. The Township has nominated the clock tower as its entry in the “Municipal World's Great Canadian Landmark” contest. The contest, now in its second year, runs until Aug. 15, and residents are invited to cast their votes for the clock tower to win the contest.

The Township nominated the clock tower following recent restoration work and because of its long-standing significance to the community. The library, which was built in 1887 by Uxbridge-born businessman and politician Joseph Gould, continues to serve residents and remains a symbol of Uxbridge’s heritage and identity.

To mark the building’s importance to the township, the Township is encouraging residents to vote now at municipalworld.mysocialpinpoint.com/municipal-world-landmark-contest.

The original 1887 clock, which was purchased from Seth Thomas Clocks for $315, has continued to keep time although the clock’s hands and mechanical systems required attention over the years. The Millennial Chimes, first installed in 1999, have also been replaced with a new carillon system. The same technician who installed the original chimes recently returned to install the new system.
