Seniors Centre applying for grant

Roger Varley, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter

In a joint report made to council on Monday, Hunter Gardner, manager of arena and recreation, and Jo-Anne Haley, coordinator of facility operations and seniors services, requested permission to apply to the provincial Seniors Community Grant Program (SCG) for a grant of up to $25,000.

They said, if successful, the grant would cover the cost of a program called Age Well Uxbridge: Mobility, Wellness & Education Series, which has been reviewed and approved by the Age-Friendly Committee. The series would offer a "play and learn" type pass for a variety of classes and workshops, which may include weekly inclusive fitness classes with chair yoga, tai chi, strength and balance and pickleball, Nordic walking and mobility confidence training, monthly Healthy Aging in Place workshops and monthly Ask a Professional’ workshops.

Councillor Pam Beach said the programming is "really, really important" for Uxbridge seniors.

The request was approved.
