Popular prayer breakfast serves North Durham on May 20

The Uxbridge Prayer Breakfast has expanded to become the North Durham Prayer Breakfast, with the 2026 edition uniting Uxbridge, Scugog and Brock townships.

Taking place on Wednesday, May 20 from 7 – 9 a.m. at Mill Run Golf Club in Uxbridge, the popular breakfast will feature keynote speaker Dr. Steve Russell. In 2016, Dr. Russell became the first chair of the board of Oak Ridges Hospice, a palliative care facility located in Port Perry. Russell will share the moving story of how this much-needed hospice came to be and will highlight the importance of palliative care in North Durham.

Another highlight of the morning will be a musical performance by accomplished local musician Bev Foster. Foster is co-founder and executive director of the Room 217 Foundation, a Canadian health arts organization that aims to integrate music into the caregiving process. She is also a Community Research Fellow at the Laurier Centre for Music in the Community.

The annual prayer breakfast, now in its 15th year, is hosted by the churches of Uxbridge, Scugog and Brock. It usually draws a large crowd of elected officials, first responders, educators, entertainment/media, clergy and local business leaders as the community comes together to pray over each sector, harnessing the power of prayer in a local setting.

The event is open to all community members in the North Durham area.

Tickets are $25 and available for purchase at Blue Heron Books in Uxbridge, Pilgrims Home Hardware in Sunderland and Low’s Furniture in Port Perry. After May 13, tickets are $30.
