New Bruins president teases about next season

Erin Arsenault, the newly elected president of the Uxbridge Bruins, is teasing fans about the upcoming season.

Arsenault replaces Jay Simmonds, who is leaving the Bruins to join the Aurora Tigers Junior A team. She joined the board last year.

She will be taking over the team as it celebrates its 50th year of operations. Asked if any special events are planned for the landmark season, Arsenault said: "You'll have to wait and see."

One thing fans will see is a return to the old Bruins logo as well as a 50th anniversary commemorative patch on the players' uniforms.

Arsenault pointed out that she is concerned with the team's administration, not operations. However, she said the organization is going to build on the success of last season.

"We've got a great group of volunteers (all board members are volunteers) and sponsors," she said, noting that Douglas Crossing joined the sponsor list last year. "We're going to keep up the momentum and get new volunteers."

Arsenault has played hockey since she was 10 years old and still plays in the women's recreational league.

"Sport has been near and dear to me all my life," she said.

And, consistent with her new role, she pitched the Bruins' annual golf tournament, saying there are still spots available for the Aug. 12 tournament.
