Heritage committee proves it’s been busy

In a report to council on Tuesday, the Heritage Committee reviewed its accomplishments over the last three years and looked ahead to the upcoming year.

The report said the committee had four goals: to continue to strengthen/increase the Heritage Inventory; to enhance Heritage Inventory Listed and Designated Properties; to document lost history to tell the story of Uxbridge; and to increase public awareness of Heritage Uxbridge.

The report said the inventory was strengthened with the inclusion of two new designated properties on the municipal register: the Udora United Church and the Quaker Meeting House.

The committee increased public awareness of the history and culture of the Township through the creation of a new pamphlet and attending public events throughout the community. The committee also has sent a letter to council with the intent of creating a Heritage Conservation District within the historic downtown located along Brock St.

The Heritage Committee is a committee of council that advocates for the preservation and conservation of heritage properties within the Township, and meet monthly through hybrid meetings.
