Ten years ago, a tv show aired for the first time, putting the lovely town of Goodwood on the world’s stage. Schitt’s Creek, a quirky comedy starring Eugene Levy, Daniel Levy, Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy. The premise of the show - a super-rich, wildly dysfunctional family becomes super-poor overnight and must learn to live in the confines of the only thing they have left with their name on it - a backwater town called Schitt’s Creek. The show was a sleeper hit in Canada before being taken up by Netflix moving to the top of the ratings and winning several awards.
One of the show’s biggest fans, “Cameron,” has created a hobby for himself and is known locally as “The Schitty Tour Guide.” Cameron volunteers his free time to chat with visitors and guide them through a “behind the scenes” perspective. There are frequent international fans, with the furthest visitor to date being from Perth, Australia. Joe Toby, owner of “Bob’s Garage,” also loves taking time out of his day to chat with the fans and hand out free handmade souvenirs. Toby has handed out nearly 10,000 souvenirs.
To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the beloved tv show, and to celebrate the 10,000th souvenir handed out, Toby and “Cameron” have come up with a special package for the lucky 10,000th fan. A special tour of “Schitt’s Creek” happens Friday, Aug. 15, from 5 - 8 p.m., beginning at 4179 Front Street in Goodwood. Toby will handmake special souvenirs, as well as provide a guided tour of “Bob’s Garage” and “Johnny’s Office.” Cameron will continue with a tour of the town, and throw in a free novelty license plate and two custom pens as additional souvenirs for the lucky 10,000th visitor!
