Community on the front page
by Lezley Woodhams
For 20 years, the Cosmos has been at the heart of our community, and I was fortunate to contribute my photography to its pages. Conrad Boyce asked me to cover local events, and many of my photos ended up on the front cover. He would let me know what was happening in town, and I would go capture it—moments of action, raw emotion, and the little stories that make our community unique. Each assignment was an opportunity to connect with people, witness events firsthand, and translate those experiences into images that told a story.
Photography has always been my passion, though over the years, life, work, and raising children often pushed it to the background. Being asked to contribute to the Cosmos reignited that creative spark. I loved trying to capture more than just an event—I aimed to evoke emotion, to find settings and moments that felt alive, genuine, and meaningful.
Seeing my photos in print, especially on the front page, was incredibly satisfying. It made me proud to leave a mark and contribute to the community in my own way. I hoped my work would give readers a sense of our small town, the events that bring us together, and the people who make Uxbridge special. Contributing to the Cosmos wasn’t just about taking pictures, it was about connecting with the community, celebrating its spirit, and expressing a creative voice that had long been waiting to be shared. Looking back, it remains one of the most fulfilling chapters of my photography journey.
