One fun thing came out of the COVID-19 shutdowns - the Canada Day Decorating Contest was created, and it’s being held again this year.

The contest, run by the Canada Day committee, was announced at Monday’s council meeting. Originally introduced in 2020 as an alternative to the fireworks display, the contest was revived last year “with great success.” The Committee has decided to continue this tradition as a way to celebrate and showcase the community’s Canadian pride.

The prize for winning the contest will be a free family pass to the 2025 Uxbridge Fall Fair. The winner will also be invited to join the committee for the flag raising and singing of the national anthem at the Canada Day Celebrations in Elgin Park in the evening on July 1.

To enter the contest, residents of the township can decorate their house, lawn, family, or pets for Canada Day. They are then invited to email a photo of the decorations to events@uxbridge.ca by June 29, no later than 11:59 p.m. Participants should include their name and phone number in their submission email.

The winner will be chosen at random from the pool of submissions and will be notified on June 30.

“Good luck to all participants! We look forward to seeing everyone’s Canadian spirit!”
